In Africa, English is the official language of 20 countries, and it is spoken by at least 200 million people. Many artists, whether they are singers, actors, writers, or musicians, express themselves and create in this language. Notable examples include Abdulrazak Gurnah from Tanzania, Nobel Prize in Literature in 2021, and Sona Jobarteh from Gambia, the first professional female kora player. Yet, English-speaking Africa remains largely unknown in France.
To help you discover artists from this part of the world, the students of 2nde1 and 2nde4 have created radio portraits of artists, musicians, rappers, writers, and singers from this region.
