{"id":4403,"date":"2026-05-26T09:34:42","date_gmt":"2026-05-26T07:34:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mediascol.ac-clermont.fr\/lycee-polyvalent-chamalieres\/?p=4403"},"modified":"2026-05-26T09:34:42","modified_gmt":"2026-05-26T07:34:42","slug":"ghana-from-a-colony-to-the-commonwealth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mediascol.ac-clermont.fr\/lycee-polyvalent-chamalieres\/2026\/05\/26\/ghana-from-a-colony-to-the-commonwealth\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghana : from a colony to the Commonwealth"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Nos \u00e9l\u00e8ves de secondes 2, 4 et 5 ont eu la chance d&rsquo;interviewer notre assistant d&rsquo;anglais qui vient du Ghana, une occasion en or pour comprendre ce que fut l&rsquo;occupation britannique et ce que l&rsquo;adh\u00e9sion au Commonwealth a apport\u00e9 au pays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For our English class, and our project about the Commonwealth, we had the chance to interview Thomas More Awui, who comes from Ghana. In his country, people call him Selasi, which is his African name. Then, he spoke about his region, Volta. He explained to us that there are waterfalls, a park with monkeys and a river named after the region crossing it. Those elements make Volta attractive and therefore, an amazing place to visit. Moreover, in Ghana, there is the highest mountain of West Africa. The water is drinkable, and in some regions rivers are so clean that people can drink their water. However there are still some typical villages with water problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thomas More thinks that the English presence had a bad impact because they treated the inhabitants badly and the population suffered from a lot of inequalities. According to him, the British have also brought some improvements such as education, which<br>means a lot for him as he is an English teacher, who would like to become a French one, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>If you want to learn more about Ghana and about our assistant, go and listen to our podcast!
